Description

In this activity, a number of Business Workers, and Business Entities are detailed independently. Where changes are made to the definitions of business workers and business entities, the corresponding Business Use-Case Realizations may have to be updated to reflect these changes.  The Business Systems defined in the Business Architecture Document are used to partition the business workers and business entities. As yet undiscovered Business Events may be revealed when detailing the business entities. The Business Rules are used when assigning responsibilities to the business workers.

This activity results in a blueprint for the target (to-be) organization and should therefore be thoroughly reviewed, especially to ensure that no important architectural issues have been overlooked or remain unaddressed. This target Business Analysis Model can be compared to the current (as-is) Business Analysis Model described during Describe Current Business to assess the necessary organizational changes.

Staffing

A person acting as business designer needs to be skilled in modeling techniques and possess strong writing skills. Knowledge of the business domain is good, of course, but this can be provided by involving domain experts as reviewers. Someone with strong business-modeling experience must be involved, at least as a sparring partner, to assist the business designer in making judicious choices regarding roles and responsibilities.

Key Considerations

The core development team members must conduct a few rounds of internal walkthroughs, facilitated by the business designer, to clean up inconsistencies before their work is more formally inspected and reviewed by the extended team.

The team divides the material so that they do not have to review everything at once. The review meeting (covering the primary business workers, business entities, and business events) should not take more than a day.

Task: Review the Business Analysis Model contains checklists that will help you when you are reviewing a business worker or business entity.
